Welcome to the Koos Kamp Alumni Website.
Koos Kamp was founded by the Sorenson family in 1959 and has evolved over the years from a summer camp to a Youth Conservation Corp Camp to a therapeutic school now known as Sorenson’s Ranch School.
The Koos Kamp experience was very unique and in a special time and place in the ’60s and ’70s, but it can be partially summed up by a paragraph from Koos Kamp brochures describing the owners’ philosophy and an old Welsh poem that was engraved on a large wooden plaque embedded in the stone fireplace in the lodge.

Literally thousands of young people have benefited from the Sorensons’ philosophy, love, and way of life. On behalf of the Koos Kamp alumni, I would like to express my thanks and gratitude to the Sorensons, their extended family, and the people of Grass Valley for all that they have done and for sharing their way of life with us.

Of course, no discussion of Koos Kamp photographs can be without the “Hand of God.” Anybody got any explanations for this? What is it, a double exposure? It appears to be a human hand holding a cloth of some sort, but maybe not. Thoughts?
